7th Annual Ratfink Party Review by Tim Shpall

Let me start by saying I have been involved in Drag Racing for over 40 years and the Director of Marketing for Los Angeles County Raceway (LACR) for the last 16 years, So I have literally Seen it All, Been There Done That!

But last nights Ratfink Party was Off the Hook! Thanks to Moldy Marvin.

With over 5,000 folks in attendance and over 200 show, drag cars and motorcycles the show got underway about 3pm. There was not stop music by the Rhythm Stompers, Luck of the Draw, Hot Rod Rebels, The Southerners, The Black Shadows, Danny Dean & The Home Wreckers and The Craze. A Vendor Midway with everything from hats & shirts to hot rod memorabilia, to Galpin Fords restored Munster Car Dragula!

As the show progressed next up were the Derby Dolls, what's a Derby Doll you ask, well if your old enough to remember Roller Derby (like I am) its back and its back with a Vengeance! These incredible ladies set a new first not just at LACR but a first in Drag Racing History, when they all lined up at the starting line and staged, then the starter hit the switch and the Dolls were off down the mile they were Great!

As night fell and the show started to wind down it was time for the Flame Thrower contest and first up was the ultimate flame thrower, Wild Bob Vance behind the wheel of the Pick-Your-Part Jet Powered Dually Inferno!

After a 40 foot flame and a 200 mile per hour pass down the track the contestants pulled out, one by one and did there thing and as the final flame off approached, from out of the crowd came a hulk of a man who proclaimed to Moldy that he wanted to enter the contest. Moldy asked the big man where's your car and he answered I don't have a car I Breath Fire and Moldy said sign him up! The big man whose name is Ton took a drink and with torch in hand proceeded to blow 10 foot flames into the air; needless to say the crowd went wild! Nice job Ton.

Well there you have it, Girls on Roller Skates, Jets, a guy Breathing Fire, Great Bands, Great Hot Rods and most of all a lot of Great People and if you weren't there you missed some Really Great Shit!

End of story not quite if you were there last night you may have seen a guy with a black top hat and a blonde goatee, his name is John Mad Jack Marshall the bloke from down under, Jack came out from Australia two weeks ago just to help Moldy with the show. In the last couple of weeks I have had the opportunity to get to know Jack and I can tell you I'm a better person for it, his one the funniest, most intelligent people that I've meant in a long time and the Derby Dolls think he's cute (must be the accent) and I'm proud to call him friend, safe trip home mate and stay in touch, we will all miss you.

A coffin on wheels built by George Barris for "Grandpa" of the 60's Munsters TV show. This dragster goes from 0 to over 180 mph in a matter of seconds with a parachute for brakes. An ornate Owens-Corning Fiberglass casket, trimmed in royal purple velvet silk and embodying a very lively 350 H.P. Ford Mustang engine with a 12 volt Autolite electrical system.

For over 2000 children in the Antelope Valley, The Boys & Girls Clubs of the Antelope Valley have been havens of encouragement; places where kids can find support and resources to discover and achieve their full potential.  If the Boys & Girls Clubs of Antelope Valley did nothing more than provide a safe place where kids could hang out, that would be worthy of community support. But these Club locations do so much more for the community.  Check out their website by clicking on this link and you will see why we've chosen the AV Boys & Girls Clubs for this events Charity of Choice..
